Le Serre Salentine are hilly elevations of the lower Salento in the province of Lecce which are located south of the ideal line which roughly connects Gallipoli and Otranto. They extend for 1088 km², equal to 38.9% of the province. They are characterized by alignments of modest stony rumps, locally called greenhouses. The highest point is in the Serra dei Cianci, at 196 metres. They are also called Murge Salentine, even if they are almost completely separated from the sister hills by the Tavoliere di Lecce, with a subtle connection in the areas immediately close to the Ionian coast.
The heights of the eastern slope descend directly to the sea (forming the stretch of coast between Otranto and Capo di Leuca), while the Greenhouses of the middle section (from Supersano to Capo) are characterized by numerous terraces, made necessary for agricultural crops.
