If we had in our mind the formula of ancient beauty, the one capable of transforming simple ingredients into authentic domestic harmony, perhaps we would not feel so much wonder when visiting houses with deep history. The enchantment of these places in truth never fades; the intertwining of stories and memories silently moves under the surface, because the houses we live in in turn live in us, patiently retaining an important part of our experience.

The house we encounter in via Verdi, in Marittima, a stone's throw from Piazza Principe Umberto, establishes a passionate dialogue with its roots. Every room is pervaded by a maternal scent, a sense of joy that instills serenity in our thoughts and makes us feel at home. Beyond the entrance courtyard, located to the west, we enter a comfortable passageway that organizes a good part of the rooms of the house around itself. In the path of the entrance door opens a generous multipurpose room whose breath draws life from the external space behind, while on the left a large living area, with a fireplace in a corner position, frees up an intriguing space for its size and opening onto the external space, without neglecting the presence on the two opposite sides of a kitchenette and a service bathroom, susceptible to change in size and their destination.

The rear courtyard, reachable not only from the kitchen but also from the corridor in a serving position, perfectly completes the space dedicated to conviviality and relaxation, because in this fortunate rectangle, which opens onto the blue sky, a Salento table with lively conviviality can find the right place, under a reed that devoutly mitigates the warm textures of the sun.

The heart of the house is given by a starry room, in a central position, around which rotate three bedrooms with square vaults, in addition to the main bathroom. What is surprising is the extraordinary fluidity of the distribution of the spaces, the perception of spaciousness that is enhanced by the two French windows in the middle, as well as by the way in which the daylight moves on the white face of the walls, framing rooms with an elegant and discreet candor.

At the top of the staircase, which originates in the whispered space between the living area and the sleeping area, you can appreciate a graceful barrel-vaulted room, whose consistency is that of a traditional storage room, of those that once held terracotta pots full of legumes and that vibrated with the bright colors of summer tomatoes.
