A LITTLE HISTORY

Fara Filiorum Petri (land of Pietro's children) is a lovely Italian town of around 2000 inhabitants in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo. Small ancient village that retains its typical medieval charm. Famous for the patronal feast of Sant'Antonio Abate on January 16th (celebrated since 1799), in which giant torches called "FARCHIE" are burned. The farchie are enormous bands of reeds, about one meter in diameter and 10 m high. Each district creates one and, in the early hours of the afternoon, they are transported to the square in front of the Church of S. Antonio Abate, where they are raised and, at dusk, set on fire. While the bonfires light up the night, offering an unforgettable spectacle, citizens and visitors celebrate with traditional Abruzzo popular songs and music, good wine and typical dishes. A folkloristic event that involves all the inhabitants of this beautiful village.
