Vallepietra rises in the center of the central Apennines at an altitude of 825 meters above sea level, perched on a spur of Mount Faito. Less than 100 meters from the bottom of the deep Simbrivio valley, it is framed by the southwestern side of the Simbruini mountains with mountains up to 2000 meters high, such as the Tarino, Tarinello, Autore and Tagliata mountains. The most important religious building in Vallepietra is the sanctuary of the Holy Trinity (diocese of Anagni-Alatri), a probable Neolithic rock settlement, a place of ancient popular worship connected to the Benedictine settlements of Subiaco, still today a destination for pilgrimages of entire communities - often led on foot. Its location makes it the point of convergence of ancient transhumance routes that connected the territories and mountain communities of a significant part of today's provinces of Rome and Frosinone, which explains its continuing popularity despite the apparent isolation of the site. Even today the sanctuary, which is part of a hermitage, is only open from 1 May to 31 October. The center of popular worship is a fresco of the Trinity (popularly called "the Most Holy") dating back to around the 12th century.
