Châtillon, whose capital is located at 549 meters above sea level, has a vast territory in the shape of a butterfly, with unequal wings that extend over both sides of the valley central and the body consisting of a stretch of the Dora Baltea.
The main town is divided into two nuclei: the actual village and the Chameran village, separated by the Marmore torrent and connected by various bridges, among which the oldest is from the Roman era. The town is located at the entrance to the Valtournenche, which rises up to the slopes of the Matterhorn.
In ancient times Châtillon was one of the most important villages in the region and this is demonstrated by the presence of numerous castles and towers.
